EMDR Therapy in Tucson, AZ

Some memories don't fade with time. They stay stuck, showing up as anxiety, flashbacks, or a body that reacts before your mind catches up. EMDR is one of the most researched approaches for helping the brain finally process those memories so they stop running the show. At Mindful Vision Counseling in Tucson, our EMDR-certified therapist offers this work both in-office and by telehealth.

What Is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It's a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps your brain reprocess a difficult memory so it stops feeling as raw and overwhelming. During EMDR, your therapist guides you through a memory while using a specific pattern of eye movements, taps, or sounds. Many people describe it as helping a memory move from "happening right now" to "something that happened, in the past." You don't have to describe every detail out loud for it to work.

What EMDR Can Help With

- Trauma and PTSD, from a single distressing event or years of repeated stress

- Panic attacks and anxiety that seem to come out of nowhere

- Difficult memories that still feel raw no matter how much time has passed

- Body-based reactions, like a racing heart or shutting down, tied to specific triggers

What a Session Looks Like

The first session or two are about building trust and safety, not diving into the hardest memory in the room. Your therapist will help you identify a target memory, walk through the reprocessing steps together, and check in throughout. You're always in control, and you can pause any time.

Meet Your EMDR-Certified Therapist

Elizabeth DeVries, LPC, is EMDR-certified and also trained in DBT, with a focus on trauma, ADHD, substance use, and LGBTQ+-affirming care. She offers EMDR both in-office in Tucson and by telehealth.

How MVC Can Help

If you've tried talk therapy and still feel stuck on the same memory or the same trigger, EMDR may reach something that talking alone hasn't. We'll start with a conversation about what you're carrying and whether EMDR is the right fit before any reprocessing work begins.
